In this interview, Morgan Psychology Director Dr Bronny Raykos speaks to Dr Andrew Sheridan, a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist who is Director of Kirwan Clinic in Western Australia. Andrews specialises in assessment and support for people who are neurodivergent, including autism and ADHD. Andrew discusses what neurodivergence is, the three types of neurodivergent profiles, how neurodivergence can impact on eating and body image, and strategies for adapting evidence-based treatments to suit a neurodivergent brain. Bronny and Andrew discuss some of the complexities when it comes to managing the co-occurrence of eating disorder and neurodivergence, such as managing medication. This interview is the start of a series Bronny and Andrew are building to improve supports for neurodivergent people who also have an eating disorder, and to improve education and practical tools for the mental health clinicians who are working with this intersection.
