Morgan Psychology (“Morgan”, “we”, “us”) aims to provide access to high-quality, evidence-based education, digital programs and innovative products to support people affected by symptoms of an eating disorder and to support mental health clinicians develop more competence and confidence working with eating disorders (collectively called our “Services”).

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and otherwise process personal information we obtain in connection with the service we provide, including through our website and any mobile applications that we may develop (collectively “Site) that link to the Privacy Policy.  The Privacy Policy is part of our Terms of Use.  When you use our services and Site you accept and agree to both the Terms of Use and to the Privacy Policy.  If you do not agree to the Privacy Policy, you should stop using the Services and Site immediately.  By accessing and using our Site, you agree that you have read and agree to the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy.

Confidentiality

Clinical psychologists follow strict ethical guidelines relating to confidentiality of your personal information, outlined in the Privacy Act (1998) and the APS Ethical Guidelines on Confidentiality.  We share information with:

  • Your referrer (e.g. psychiatrist, general practitioner): we write brief, regular updates to your referrer that includes information such as our assessment summary, treatment plan, mental and physical health risks, progress and attendance.   If you are receiving sessions through the Medicare better access scheme then we need to write to your referring doctor at regular intervals so you can access your rebate.
  • Parents or primary caregivers of children and adolescents under the age of 18 years.
  • If you would like us to communicate with other professionals or bodies (e.g., school) we will need you to sign a consent form before we can share information.   You can withdraw your consent at any time.
  • Clinical psychologists receive regular clinical supervision.  Your personal information may be shared for the purpose of improving your care during clinical supervision. 

We may need to share your personal information in some circumstances without your consent.  Exceptions to confidentiality include:

  • When a court requests information. 
  • When there is reason to believe that someone is at risk of being hurt, such as a threat to life, safety, or health of an individual or to public health and safety. 
  • If we become aware that unlawful activity or serious misconduct is being or may be engaged in.

 

Personal information we collect

We collect personal information from clients, family members, and other caregivers or support people, as well as from your treatment team, which may include your general practitioner, psychiatrist, dietitian, or other people in your support team.  The information we collect may include:

  • Health and medical information, such as your Medicare details, private health insurance details, information about physical and mental health conditions and diagnoses, current and past treatments for medical conditions, and family medical history.
  • Personal and business contact information and preferences, such as name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and emergency contact information
  • Biographical and demographic information, such as date of birth, age, gender, marital status, and information regarding any parents or legal guardians.
  • At times, we may ask to record your in-person or telehealth conversation using video or audio for quality and training purposes, and to improve our programs.  You will always be asked to consent for audio and video recording of sessions, and you can decline without this impacting on your treatment.
  • Transaction information, such as information about payments to and from you and other details of products or services you have purchased from us.
  • Feedback or correspondence, such as information you provide when you contact us with questions, feedback, or otherwise correspond with us online
  • Other information you provide to us, such as in emails, on phone calls, or in other correspondence with Morgan Psychology.

Use of Cookies

We may use cookies, browser web storage (also knowns as locally stored objects, or LSO’s). web beacons, and similar technologies to automatically collect information about your interaction with our services through your computer or mobile device, including:

Device data, such as your computer or mobile device operating system type and version number, manufacturer and model, device identifier, browser type, screen resolution, IP address, and general location information such as city, state or geographic area; and

Online activity data, such as the website you visited before browsing to our website, and information about your use of and actions on our websites and mobile apps, including pages or screens you viewed, how long you spent on a page or screen, navigation paths between pages or screens, information about your activity on a page or screen, access times, and length of access, and how you respond to emails we send you. We may track certain actions you take on the Site such as the content of searches performed on the Site and information that you enter into the Site (e.g. your name and email address when signing up for an email newsletter, requesting more information about us and our Services, etc.).

Analytics. We may use tools such as Google Analytics to help analyze how individuals use the Site. Such third parties may use Cookies, APIs, and SDKs in our services to enable them to collect and analyze user and device related data and information on our behalf. Google Analytics use Cookies to collect information such as how often users visit the Site, what pages they visit, and what other sites they used prior to coming to the Site. We use the information we get to improve our Site and Services. Although Google Analytics plants a persistent Cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit the Site, the Cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to the Site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy. You may prevent your data from being used by Google Analytics by downloading and installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, available at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout/.  

How we use your personal information

We use your personal information for the following purposes: 1) to provide you with the Services described in the Terms of Use; 2) to comply with law and professional and ethical requirements; 3) for auditing and compliance purposes; and 4) for research and service evaluation and improvement purposes. 

Your data may be used for research purposes as we are interested in finding out whether our clinical and educational programs are effective.  Identifying information, such as your name, is removed for research so your identity is protected.  If you do not want your data to be used for research, please email admin@morganpsychology.au to advise of this.  Your treatment will not be adversely impacted, and you may continue to use our Services and Site.  You can also change your mind later and remove your consent for your data to be used in research.  Using our Services and Site means you that give permissions for Morgan to enter your information in re-identifiable form in our database, which may later be used for reports, conference presentations, research, and publications in professional journals.

All research complies with Australian and international legislation and codes of conduct.  There are no direct benefits to you, but sharing your information may potentially benefit our shared understanding of how treatment is helping you as an individual.  The information might also improve our understanding of and treatments to help patients and researchers in the future.  

There are no expected medical or psychological risks to you by allowing your information to be used in research.  The most important non-medical risk is the unintended disclosure of information.  This risk is minimised with several safety measures that ensure confidentiality, including the removal or identifying information, using code numbers instead of names in the dataset, and adherence to strict ethical guidelines regarding information transfer, storage, and access.

Protection of your personal information

We manage all patient data through Power Diary, an ISO-27001-certified practice management system.  This ensures that your personal data is protected by software that meets the highest global standards for information management and complies with all applicable privacy regulations.  


When we use third-party applications (e.g. AI-enhanced clinical note-taking) you will be asked to consent to using that third-party application.  For example, we require that any data is hosted within Australia, which significantly reduces the risk of data breaches.  

We maintain appropriate physical, procedural and technical security for our offices and information storage facilities so as to reduce the risk of any loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, or modification of personal information. This also applies to disposal of your personal information.  We further protect personal information by restricting access to your personal information to only those who need access to the personal information to do their job. We will destroy or de-identify personal information once it is no longer needed for a valid purpose or required to be kept by law.

Data transmissions over the Internet cannot be guaranteed as completely secure.  While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information.  In the event that Morgan is required to notify you about a situation involving your data, we may do so by email or telephone to the extent permitted by law.

Changes to this privacy policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time by posting a new version online.  If we make any material changes to the Privacy Policy, we will notify you via email or via a notification on our website or another method we believe is reasonably likely to reach you.
